Home Remedy For Dogy Itchy Skin
Easy and inexpensive ways to help alleviate your dog’s itchy skin.
Poor Itchy Pup
At times it’s kinda funny to watch your dog scratch at himself, but then there are
other times when your best pal is going crazy to soothe his itchy skin. Scratching only makes it worse so its up to
you to help your poor pup out. Many pet owners are opposed to the antihistamines or steroids that some
veterinarians recommend. The good news is that there is a home remedy for your dog’s itchy skin using herbs, oils,
and good old fashioned Epsom salt.
Rule Out AllergiesItching can be caused by a myriad of things- dandruff, allergies, fleas, mosquito bites,
or even poison ivy. Before you try a home remedy for dog’s itchy skin, make sure you rule out any food allergies
because only the elimination of the particular food will cure the itch.
Epsom Salt
One of the easiest and most effective ways to help your dog’s itchy skin is a bath with Epsom salt. You can buy
Epsom salt at your local pharmacy or other store and it cost just a few dollars. Fill up the tub or whatever you
use to wash your dog and add the appropriate amount of Epsom salt according to the directions on the box. Just
remember not to let your dog drink too much of the water or it may cause diarrhea.
Add Some Oils To The MixTo boost the power of the Epsom salt bath, why not add some essential oils that
are recommended for dry skin? Emu oil has been used for ages to soothe many skin ailments such as eczema,
psoriasis, and even sunburn. Why not let your best bud experience the goodness of Emu oil too? Some other oils to
try are lavender and tea tree oil. Just add ten to twenty drops directly to the water.
Wash, Rinse, RepeatRepeat this combination of Epsom salt bath, oils, and herbs for about a week to start
to see relief. Your dog’s itchy skin will be a thing of the past.
Herbal Help
Try an herbal bath for your pup by boiling 2 cups of fresh peppermint and rosemary in 1 quart of boiling water.
Let the herbs steep for up to an hour, then strain the water and add it to a tub full of warm water (make sure your
dog is not in the bath tub when you pour in the hot water to avoid any accidents). Soak your dog’s fur with the
water and then allow it to air dry.
